LOTE - Chinese

After careful consideration and discussions, including with our students, we have made the decision that we will transition from teaching Auslan to offering Chinese (Mandarin) as our whole-school language starting 2026.

This change is guided by what we believe will provide the greatest long-term benefit for our students. Mandarin connects strongly with language pathways offered by some of our feeder high schools, including Mount Clear Secondary College and Ballarat Grammar, which means our students would be able to continue building their learning as they move into secondary education if they wanted to. This creates a more consistent and meaningful journey for them across their schooling.

We are fortunate to have a qualified, ongoing full-time staff member with experience in teaching Mandarin, allowing us to deliver a high-quality, engaging program.

In addition, Mandarin is well supported by a wide range of community and local partnerships that we will be able to draw upon to enrich students' learning experiences, including Sovereign Hill, Mount Clear Language Centre & Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat.
